Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

After our festive 4th of July, we picked up a load from BNSF in Malta, Montana, going all the way to Topeka, Kansas.

The next couple of days would see us leaving Montana for North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and finally Kansas. All great states with splendid scenery and landmarks where history sculpted our nation. In this post, however, I'd like to shine a spotlight on North Dakota, in particular.

A teacher, by the name of Gary Greff, took his talents and created sculptures that would boost the flow of curious travelers down a byway and through his hometown of Regent. The road has become known as The Enchanted Highway. At intervals along a 32-mile  stretch, in the southwestern part of the state,  you'll find the most interesting and whimsical metal sculptures.

The Tin Family. Notice the 'real' couple beyond the sculptures.  They give the proper perspective of the enormity of the artwork.

This was a very memorable detour that we hope to see again.  In 2012, Greff opened a motel, The Enchanted Castle, in Regent, continuing the theme of the Enchanted Highway.  We've added a stay in the castle to our bucket list.

Intermittent fields of cheery canola covered vast areas between and all around the sculptures.  What a stunning sight! They have allowed North Dakota to be the top producer of canola products in the US. The happy little flowers, in their vibrant yellow, are like pools of sunshine. ☀️

Not terribly far from all of these beauties, I saw yet another wonderful sight that has now been checked off my bucket list. We happened upon a grazing field at the perfect time to see a very large herd of buffalo. My heart swelled until I had tears in my eyes. It was like standing in awe of living history. Hubs said the only thing that would've topped that was to see them all running together. I mean, it was like watching movie scenes just to behold them.

That was one fantastic road trip!  Thanks for taking a peek into it with us. It would make for a very memorable experience for any whimsy loving family.

Away we go again, to make deliveries.
