Our reset in Charleston, WV, was a pleasant one. With a separate round trip to the edge of Ohio, birthday wishes for me, and slowing to a more restful pace, we were prepared to start another week come Tuesday morning.
Our very next shipment had been scheduled right in Charleston. Beneath the wide open West Virginia skies is the United States Armed Forces Reserve Center.
Strapped into place was a pod we'd be carrying to Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Yes, my mind went straight to James Bond in 'Goldfinger'. Many late nights growing up in my Daddy's house meant popcorn and Bond. James Bond.
Not surprisingly, no visitors are permitted at the bullion depository. No. We were headed for the army base.
The trip was one of our shorter ones, at only 4 hours or so, but it got us back into Kentucky. We had a mission of going south for a time so we could get back to Texas. At present, however, I was fully present in the beautiful Bluegrass State.
We eventually found ourselves on the stunning Bluegrass Parkway in Lexington. It is known for its picturesque landscapes, including horse farms and distilleries, and serves as a gateway to historic sites in the region.
One of the more unique sights for us caught us by complete surprise. From out of the rolling farmlands sprang The Kentucky Castle. It is a luxury destination for locals and travelers. The Kentucky Castle offers an unparalleled opportunity to stay, dine, experience, and relax.
With another load delivered, we headed to Calhoun the next day. The journey that took us into Louisville, and more iconic displays, continued on through Cincinnati with massive pipes on the trailer. We were unloading in Findlay, OH.

We'd made a little 'detour' by going north again, so from Ohio, the Buckeye State, we opted for a load that would take us back down south into Missouri. These tractor components would do the trick.
After dropping that delivery, we spent a little time searching for another load going to Texas. I guess we were getting burned out and homesick, because we didn't sit long over coffee before making the command decision to find a nice hotel, take it easy, and just deadhead home the next day.
I believe my new favorite spot is the MainStay Suites in Springfield, Missouri.
I fell asleep after a WONDERFUL meal (and gooey butter cake) from a local restaurant humming "Homeward Bound" from Simon & Garfunkel. There’s a deep longing for home that comes with being on the road. We were feeling all of that.
Tomorrow we would be home! *sigh*
