The day came when we got back on the road, leaving Abilene once again. As we passed through the city limits we watched the planes from Dyess Air Force Base flying above. We are extremely proud of the military presence in our town. Thank you one & all for your service. ๐บ๐ธ. It also gave greater meaning to the festivities coming up for the 4th of July. ๐ ๐ฅ

Our route took us through Lubbock on to Amarillo, and eventually a little corner of New Mexico, all the while seeing clouds, rain and finally rainbows. The scent outside was intoxicating; so fresh and full of life.
We spent our first night at a nice truck stop in Clayton, NM. By the next morning, still sipping on our coffee, we entered into colorful Colorado.

Unfortunately, our experience with Denver traffic has been very stressful. No matter what road or time of day, the highways become gridlocked. We tried to find an alternate route, but got a little turned around. Knowing that Buc-ee's was waiting on the other side gave us the umph to keep on keeping on.

Beyond that, we continued on into Wyoming. We took pause at a beautiful rest area, where I could actually feel the peace & quiet. Had it been closer to our destination that day, I would've been happy staying there for the night. As it was, we found another rest area that was also quiet when we were more than ready to get some shut eye. ๐ค

We also saw something very surprising on that road!! ๐๐ป

Could it be? Had we gotten a glimpse of Bigfoot himself? And his pet Dino?? ๐. I sent a quick pic to our grandson saying, "Look what we found in Wyoming!!" ๐. I absolutely love his sense of humor. It is definitely a family trait. His response was, "Dinosaurs are back from extinction!!" He's 12. ๐
The next morning as we readied the truck for another day, I was greeted by a sweet little sparrow. He perched on the mirror by my door while Hubs had Jax out for his morning stroll. I was immediately reminded of the scripture
"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father's will. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."
What a beautiful start to a brand new day. ๐ฆ

The road ahead grew more and more beautiful in its ruggedness.

We'd reached Montana in time to take our 32 hour reset. We spent it in a quaint Mom and Pop motel, Moonlight Motel. The staff was friendly, and though the rooms were slightly outdated, they were sweet (and very clean).
Prior to that, we also stopped to get.....wait for it......you know it's coming......Ice Cream Cones! ๐ฆ We seemed to have gotten a little obsessed with them, but dang! It was getting hot outside. ๐
While we wandered around the parking lot, across the street Jax spied some cattle. And they had spied him. It was so cute! Hubs took Jax a little closer so they could meet. He said it would be mooo-ving for Jax!! ๐ฎ ๐. Yes, Hubs has a corner on Dad Joke Street. ๐

Come Monday we were rested, had some meals prepped for the road, and Jax had had his bath.
We had a short drive to the next town where we'd need a crane to unload the rails we had hauled from Arkansas. One man told us to pull up next to the train track as he leapt into the driver seat of a massive crane, and several other men hopped onto our flatbed to guide the hooks, place them, and then guide them onto their train car. It was a pretty impressive sight! And I love seeing Hubs in his PPE. ๐ฅฐ

From that point, the day made a turn. No loads were found nearby, so we stopped at a truck stop, got a bag of freshly popped corn, and watched a movie. Hey! At least we were together, and a day meant for work became a date night instead. โค๏ธ ๐ฅ ๐ฟ
Feeling blessed with work, however, we were glad to have an order the next morning. Would you believe we were going to pick up another rail, take it straight back the way we'd just been to Denver, and directly back to Montana again? Whew! Quite a whirlwind few days!! But by the time we'd accomplished all of that, it was time for a long holiday weekend. ๐ ๐งจ ๐ฅ
Join us for our 4th of July coming up next!
