Do you know P. D. Eastman? I have treasured his books since I became aware that books are to be treasured: at my grandmother's side as she read to me until I fell asleep, every time I stayed with her. Those same treasures were shared with my children as they came into the world. They were the first books each of them learned to read aloud. The one pictured here is one of my favorites. I even have a pillow on my couch that says "Our Nest Is Best 🪺 ". He understands the value of Homelife. In its simplest form, it is the place where love lives.
It had been about 3 weeks since we'd left for Montana, and it was time to be home awhile. We aim for staying on the road for 3-4 weeks, then home for a week, etc. It doesn't always work out that way, but it's a goal.
I can't describe how wonderful it is to turn down our street and unpack the truck. Jax knows we're going to be home about as soon as we enter the city limits. You know how it is. Like taking a cleansing breath and letting it out as your shoulders drop away from your ears. Time to relax. Peace. Home.
As soon as my feet hit the sidewalk, I could hear happy little voices from the porch. It never fails that the first to greet us are our grandchildren. Hugs all around as Jax leaps from the truck and dashes all across the yard as fast as he can!
I looked up into the sky to say a quick prayer of thanksgiving for safe travels and the blessing of having a home to miss while we're away. Flitting just out of reach was a sweet hummingbird welcoming us, as well.

No doubt about it, we were ready for the full effect! Yes, Trusty needed some maintenance, but there was some fun in the works, too. We brought one of the Ft. Worth daughters home with us, and the girls would have a day of manis & pedis, and coffee shop hopping.

Hubs got to enjoy his favorite sport: grilling up a feast! 😋

We tried to hold everyone close and make as many memories as we could in the time we were allowed.

No matter how much we try to pour into those precious days, they seem to fly by. That trip was no different. However, we could get back on the road feeling refreshed and nourished and grateful.
A new week opened up with a load in Weatherford, TX, waiting on us.
Roll on, highway! Roll on!
