Blueberries For The Road

Published on 14 August 2025 at 17:53

I guess I'm having emotional walks down Memory Lane because I've been posting a lot of pictures of old books I read with the kiddos years ago  (maybe it's the hot flashes! πŸ₯΅).  However, when I got to thinking about our jaunt up to Michigan from Elkhart, Indiana, before striking east towards a final destination in Maine, I had all kinds of blueberries on my mind!

We picked up a load that would have 4 deliveries: Portage, MI, Livingston, NJ, Hopkinton, NH, and finally Lisbon, ME.

But first things first!! Green Acres Market. 🀀. It was all kinds of Yumminess in one store, and Hubs happily obliged me with a quick stop to prep for a satisfactory road trip. πŸ₯°πŸ˜Œ

One of my favorite mediums for great, inventive & healthy snacks is the all important Rice Cake base. Don't get me started! You can also pile all kinds of goodies onto Triscuits. They both offer so many flavors to get your creative juices flowing. Just go wild! (while watching carbs and eating whole grains, kind of Wild! 😡‍πŸ’«).

After that we were east bound and down all the way to Toledo.

By the end of the next day we'd had quite a lot of traveling (mostly in storms) from Toledo, OH, to NYC & into Connecticut. It was another hustle & bustle day, fighting traffic and unloading materials in the rain. However, thanks to my dear, *SWEET* Hubs, we got to venture into NYC to pass over the George Washington Bridge, if only to say that we had! This is a Tale of Two Tales, because his version would not focus on me leaning out the truck window to capture any good pic I could, while the seat and I got drenched. He mostly remembers the awful traffic and trying to keep us alive. 😘 He did a great job & I’m so thankful.
Later in the night while heading into Connecticut in the darkest of dark, all we heard from our GPS friend was, “There is an unplowed road ahead of you”. What! πŸ‘€. Once I stop laughing and can find Stars Hollow, we’re heading into Luke’s Diner for some well earned coffee with Lorelai & Rory. β˜•οΈ

It's an oldy but a goody and came immediately to mind when we passed the sign for Yonkers. πŸŽ₯ 🍿

I am often heard belting out the ole "Oooohhh, Rrroooy!" in my best Mary Tyler Moore voice.  πŸ˜‚. In the series the couple lives in New Rochelle, so naturally when I saw that exit sign, there was no stopping me. πŸ’πŸΌ‍♀️

Rounding out the total haul for the company waaaay back in Indiana, we finally pulled into Lisbon, Maine, after seeing some beautiful sights throughout the last morning stretch of highway. We unloaded the final pole, and took our leave to go wait on our next marching orders.

First, Headed to the first drop of the morning. πŸ‘†πŸ»

I couldn't agree more with the company quote, especially with that thick, charming, unmistakable New England accent saying it. Thank you for your help and friendly advice, Mr. Richard. 🫑

An old vertical lift draw bridge that I found fascinating, in Portland, Maine.

All of New Hampshire up into Maine looked like a giant, perfect campground. Towering trees, splashes of water,  and balmy air. Oh, the air!  Close your eyes and the numerous trees of pine, fir, cedar, and spruce join together in a symphony of aromas. If that's a thing. And I would be ever so happy to bottle it up and have it fill my house year round!

Incorporated in 1799! Did you catch that?  The entire area is steeped in history. And you know how I loooove that!!

And just like that 🫰 a journey of roughly 1183 miles came to an end. Jax, good buddy, scootch over and let Mum have her co-pilot seat back.

Join us next time when we find out what road is calling out to us. It's sure to be the one less traveled. πŸ˜‰
